I had an incredibly vivid and disturbing dream last night. I think it may be the closest I've ever gotten to a lucid dream, but it scared the bejesus out of me. And not in the way you might think. There was no boogeyman after me. I wasn't standing in front of a class, naked. I didn't get into a car accident. Nothing traumatic at all. But it still spooked me.
Last night, I fell asleep on my couch. Early. It was maybe 7:30pm. I know, I know. What an exciting life I lead, right? I hadn't slept well the night before and I was beat. Don't judge me! My dream included me sleeping on the couch. Far stretch my imagination takes....I can't even dream of sleeping on a beach with a hot guy. No, I have to dream of what's actually happening. In my dream, people were talking about me. The closest I can come to describing it is, being in a hospital and the doctor's discussing you like you're not even there, except that you're sitting right in front of them. That's what it was like. These people, in my dream, were saying I've been sleeping on the couch for the last two years, even though I think I sleep in my bed. My dream-brain was reeling! I recollected all of the night's when I would go to bed and thought to myself, "How can that not be real? It seems so real!" Apparently my dream self doesn't have a lot of confidence because in real life, I'd think those people were whack-o and didn't know what they were talking about.
But it got me thinking. How real is real? What is real? Is this all a dream? Is this all nothing? What if you're living your life....going to work, paying bills, hanging out with friends, spending time at home, watching t.v, reading a good book.....and none of it is real. It's all in your head.
You're really just sleeping on the couch.
