Cats do care. For example they know instinctively what time we have to be at work in the morning and they wake us up twenty minutes before the alarm goes off. ~Michael Nelson

Or 2 hours.

My cat, Chica, has diabetes. It's a huge pain in my ass. She can only eat special food, of which, I've bought the wrong kind twice and have had to return it, twice. Since she has to eat special food and can't eat what I've fed her for the past 9 years and what I still feed Elvis, the food location has had to change. Chica's food remains where it's always been. I figured being diabetic, she's experienced enough trauma. Moving her food location would just make matters worse. So I moved Elvis'. He now has to jump onto the kitchen counter to eat. Chica is unable to jump that high, though she has made several missed attempts. Their water has had to move as well because Chica's food smells so badly, neither one of them want to drink water from the same location.  Water is now in the dining room.  *eye roll*

Not the point of this blog.

The point of this blog is that damn cat is constantly hungry.  I feed her one can of food in the morning and one at night. At least, that's my plan.  Funny how my plan never works out & Chica's does.  She could eat 5 cans of that food, daily.  And she probably needs to because she's lost so much weight.  I refuse to feed her that much.  Every time I go into the kitchen, which is often, she winds her body around my legs expecting me to open a fresh can of food.  It doesn't matter that I shoo her away and tell her to get the hell out of the kitchen.  It. Doesn't. Matter.  I end up feeding her because she drives me to it.

The bad thing is this:  She wakes me up every morning starting around 3:00AM.  She walks on my back. She walks on my pillow. She sticks her face as close to mine as she can.  She smells like nail polish remover (acetone) so it's a little shocking.  I kick her off the bed, fall back to sleep, and wake up 10 minutes later to her walking on my back, my pillow, my face.  I kick her off again.  The whole thing goes on for 2 hours.  I refuse to get out of bed and feed her at 3:00AM though I know it would allow me 2 more hours of uninterrupted sleep.  I refuse to do that because I know it will become a ritual. She'll want fed every morning at 3:00AM.

At least, that's what I thought. Now I'm beginning to think, it doesn't matter. She wakes me up at 3:00AM every morning, regardless. I might as well give in, get up, feed her and return to blissful sleep. The things we do for our pets.....
