There are no other days that I enjoy more than waking up to a cool, crisp breeze with smells of autumn all around me. Granted, the smells are produced artificially, by candles, at this early time of the autumn season, but they still bring a smile to my face. I just have to make sure the cats don't burn their tails and go running through the apartment, setting everything else aflame.
I've had a rough few days, but a day like today restores & feeds my soul. So does accomplishing one small feat-- grocery shopping. How can something so mundane, so day-to-day, make me happy? It might have something to do with having a plethora of food to eat, but I think it has more to do with something smaller. Something that most people take for granted, but not me. I appreciate the little things. Getting out of bed in the morning with a smile on my face. Showering, so I can face the day looking (& smelling) my best. Even emptying & washing the litter box, my least favorite chore. But today I relished it. I enjoyed it. I'm sure Chica & Elvis appreciate it more. It's more the fact that I can do these things. That I haven't curled up into a ball and buried my head under the covers. It's the fact that, in the face of adversity, I can continue to be.
And for that, I thank the people around me, who have taught me, helped me grow, supported me, made me laugh, given me advice, or just a swift kick in the ass. You know who you are (buzzer-lady, foo man chu, pull-your-pants-down-at-every-opportunity-man, and of course, dad). I hope I can be what you need me to be when you need me. Because if you need a swift kick in the ass, I'm really good at that....but not so good at, say, moving furniture. Don't call me for that.
