"You're my most prized possession!"

Day 07: A picture of your most treasured item.

I remember a time in 3rd grade. I had a boyfriend in the other 3rd grade class.  They were making valentine's. They were heart-shaped, red construction paper with their school picture in the center.  I don't remember if he gave me his or what, but I do remember he told me I was his "most prized possession".  I told my mom what he said.  Hell, I was giddy over it!  She told me that was wrong. That meant that he thought he owned me.  Is it any wonder I have commitment/relationship problems?  We were in 3rd grade! I'm pretty sure neither one of us knew what "possession" meant, but thanks to mom, I never wanted to be any one's possession.

So when I first read "your most treasured item", I thought of my cats. They are most treasured to me.  But they're not really "items", are they?  Items aren't living, breathing organisms. They're stuff.  Accummulations. Things.

Now I'm stumped. What is my most treasured item?

When I moved into my apartment 9 years ago, the family helped me move, of course. I'm pretty sure that's the last time they'll ever help.  Why do I have so many freaking clothes, my brother asked.  Poor guy.  When everything was moved in and I was outside saying goodbye to my friends, my mother secretly made my bed with a brand new quilt, new pillow shams and two new pillows. It was beautiful and special that she did that for me.  The quilt is gorgeous, as only mom can make them. I will always & forever treasure them all-- every single quilt my mother has made me.

Here it is....

And here's another, more recent, quilt.

She gave this one to me because, and I quote, "You're the only one who likes these colors".  Wait til she sees my dining room wall!

Love you mom and all of your quilts...Keep 'em comin'.
