Allergies are kicking my ass. While I have an arsenal of every medication you can imagine, none of them work. None except Hyvee-brand nasal spray. I've been using it for 7 days. You're supposed to use it for 3. I think I'm doing more damage to my sinuses than good.
So today I decided to actually talk to a pharmacist. I did some fact-checking myself first. Claritin-D seemed to be my best bet. He (sort-of) agreed. He pretty much told me if Sudafed wasn't working, then this wouldn't work. I was determined to try it anyway....though I was a little nervous. Remember Tavist-D from the 90's? It's no longer on the market, that I'm aware of. I took it when I was in high school. I can't remember if I had a cold, or tonsilitis, or mono. Regardless of what I had, when I took it, I passed out. Constantly. It wasn't a lot of fun. So Tavist-D has been on my list of "DRUGS-NOT-TO-TAKE". Claritin-D has pretty much the same medications in it. That's why I was nervous. While passing out sounds like a lot of fun, it isn't.
Anywhoo, I was heading straight home and if I passed out, ah hell, the cats would take care of me, right? So I told him to ring me up. This is the first time I've tried to buy OTC medications with pseudoephedrine in them. I know things have changed considerably because of the use of ephedrine in meth, so it didn't surprise me to have to turn over my driver's license to be scanned. What did surprise me was that I was rejected.
Rejected.
I felt like a criminal. The pharmacist said, "Apparently you've bought too much Sudafed recently". Ummmm, I haven't bought any. My arsenal of meds is built up from years of accummulation. I bought Mucinex, maybe, 6 months ago. I'm pretty sure that doesn't count.
So now I'm sweating. I feel like a criminal. I'm practically in tears because all I want is some freaking RELIEF. I do not want to make meth.
I walked out without Claritin-D, but was able to purchase yet another box of Mucinex. I'm not holding out much hope that it's going to work, but I'm willing to try anything at this point. Maybe I should have bought a netti pot and drained my nose over my kitchen sink. Nahhhh, it isn't that bad.....yet.
