My pastor has a lot of fake items in his office to throw people off. He has fake poop next to a chair. It literally looks like his dog came in and took a dump and nobody's bothered to clean it up. He also has a fake wooden snake (but this doesn't look nearly as real as the poop).
So I didn't think anything of it when I walked into the front office this morning at 6:30 and saw a fake snake laying on the floor by the counter where we all get our mail. I nudged it a little bit just to make sure it was fake. It didn't move, so I was reasonably sure it was fake. I did a few things around the front office, then left to go back to my office. About 10 minutes later I went back into the front office to get the worship folders for this morning's services. The fake snake had moved.
Have you ever thought you might be losing your mind? Because at that moment, I thought I was. I was definitely having a Shining moment.
The snake had moved about 5 feet. It wasn't moving when I walked in and it didn't move the entire time I was in the office, so I thought, "I must have kicked it when I left earlier".
I'm brilliant, aren't I?
I left the office and was back again 10 minutes later. The fake snake was gone. But I was fairly certain the Director of Worship was fooling with me and had moved it. I kept saying, "You're yanking my chain, aren't you?" What am I? 12? He claimed he wasn't. We searched the office and didn't find the "fake" snake. I wasn't going back in there.
I needed to chat with the Pastor before the service started, so I headed back to the office. The snake was now by the entryway. I asked the Pastor, "Is this your fake snake?" He looked at me like I was on crack. I pointed it out to him. He poked it. It curled into a ball.
You rarely see me jump around like a little girl, but that did it. It.freaked.me.out.
I'm no snake wrangler.
