I ponder a lot while I'm on my cigarette break and where my mind went this evening is, "I am scared to death." I don't recall many times in my life when I've actually been rational, logical, in my right mind and scared to death. Now, out of my mind & scared to death, yes. But that's a whole other story. One which I'm sure you'd love to hear, but would bring my "cool" factor down quite a bit.
Once the thought, "I am scared to death" ran through my mind, I thought, "Am I really?" No, probably not. I'm not so scared, I'm going to die. But I am scared. Just not to death. Sorry, folks. You'll have me around for quite some time.
Have you ever thought about that phrase? "Scared to death". Can a person actually be so scared, they die? I've only seen that on t.v. or in the movies....where the cops say, "she looks like she was scared to death".
What about, "I'm petrified"? Now, that one, I can believe. Especially in my dreams...or rather, nightmares. Where you're running from a monster, but not really moving? Scary! I believe in petrification. Frozen in fear. Not able to do anything.
I'm not petrified, either.
But I am scared.

ok I'll bite. Why?
Petrified is better than putrified, that's what came into my mind when I first read this. Every so often I've been so scared that I thought my heart would stop. It's not fun.
