"Sex is like snow, you never know how many inches you're going to get or how long it will last”

Another blog title to confound the reader. Nope folks, this isn't about sex. It's about SNOW! Why, you ask? Because it's the first big snow of the year and everybody's talking about it. The morning & evening news is finally not about Husker football (though the can't go a day without talking about it). It's about snow. It's about driving in the snow. It's about accidents. It's about how long it's going to fall and how many inches we're going to get. It's about the mad rush to the grocery store. It's about what people are buying at the stores (food essentials, snow shovels, snow blowers, ice melt, etc, etc, etc). I don't know of anything that gets people more in a panic around here than a big snow storm. I love it!

I love how the snow blankets the entire world and makes it fresh, clean, pure. I love how the Christmas lights twinkle in the snow. I could sit all day in my recliner, looking out my window at the snow falling softly to the ground. Notice I said "sit in my recliner"....not drive.

I have an itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny car that handles surprisingly well in the snow. But come on. If I get hit, the car is toast. So I drive slower than Driving Miss Daisy to protect my assets (my car and myself). And I find that that is what gets me to work. Driving slow gets me to where I need to be. (That last statement is a little bit debatable, because I'm pretty sure work would continue even if I wasn't here, so how needed am I, really?) But I don't have it in me to not try. I can't look out my window and say, "Maybe I shouldn't be driving in this". I have to at least try. And if I don't make it, so be it. At least I tried.

What is that about, anyway? Homer Simpson said, "You tried & failed miserably. The point is, never try." You gotta love Homer. So why this need inside me to not let my boss down, to not let my co-workers down, to not let anybody who might show up at work today, down? For pity's sake. Is it worth totalling a car and potential injury? I guess so. Maybe it's so that I can say, "I tried and I made it." I don't have the Homer Simpson philosophy embedded in my nature. Thanks for that, mom & dad.
