"And the rain is brain-colored. And the thunder sound like something remembering something."-- Stan Rice

I just finished "The Witching Hour" by Anne Rice.

Great book? Absolutely. Maddening? You have no idea.

It's 1,000 pages of witches, a demon that might not be a demon, secrets, love, and sex.

My conundrum, so to speak, is the ending. Or rather the lack thereof. Why is it that I can read 1,000 pages of a story and yet the story doesn't end? How can it not end within 1,000 pages?!? No, instead, there's a sequel. "Lasher". I'm not even sure I want to attempt to find "Lasher" because I fear it'll be another 1,000 maddening pages of description upon description upon description with no real ending.

But I will. I will find "Lasher" and I will read it because there's more to the story. I can't let it go at that. Not when the story is that good.

Upon 'finishing' (& I use that word lightly) "The Witching Hour", I immediately dove into "The House of Leaves" that my friend, Tim, let me borrow. I could only read through Chapter 2 because I still had Anne Rice's witches & demons in my head. Hopefully, after a good night's rest, which I'm sure will entail dreams of demons, I'll be able to tackle this book.

What are some good books you've been reading? And are the endings as good as the story?
