"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." -Mark Twain

I led staff devotion yesterday.  Originally, I was going to read the poem, "At Wit's End Corner" by Antoinette Wilson.  Here's a tidbit...

Are you standing at “Wit’s End Corner”,

Blinded with wearying pain,
Feeling you cannot endure it,
You cannot bear the strain,
Bruised through the constant suffering,
Dizzy, and dazed, and numb?
Remember—at “Wit’s End Corner”
Is where Jesus loves to come.

Yep, I was going to go there.....but I didn't.  I thought it might hit a little too close to home and perhaps....just perhaps....give my boss the impression that I'm at my wit's end.  Which I am.  But I don't need him to know that.

Anywhoo, as I was preparing, I wanted an image to go with "At Wit's End".  I never did find exactly what I was looking for, but I did find these.

Sensing a theme here?  It's a good thing I didn't go the route I was planning.  I envisioned gnashing of teeth, uncontrollable sobbing, yelling....all in all, not a good idea.

Instead, I talked about the poem, "The Changed Cross".  Enlightening poem about a woman who thought her cross was surely heavier to bear than anybody else's.  She had a dream where she could choose which cross she wanted to bear. She first chose a bejeweled one because it was so beautiful.  It was too heavy for her to bear.  She then chose a cross covered in flowers, probably thinking it would be light enough for her. Unfortunately, those nasty thorns tore into her flesh.  She could not bear that cross.  Eventually, she comes to a cross with no adornments and it is easy for her to carry.  It's the same cross she'd been carrying.  Moral is, God knows best.  My moral is, Mind your own damn business.  Worry about your own world, your own life, and leave everybody else alone.

See, I can turn even a nice, lovely, Christian poem into something nasty.
