“I have too much respect for the idea of God to make it responsible for such an absurd world.” --Georges Duhamel

Do you think God acts on your behalf?

For example, let's pretend you're having a major chocolate fit. You've got to have chocolate RIGHT NOW. But you're on a diet and you know chocolate is bad for you. WHO CARES! You're having a fit and you need it right now. A lot of it. So you run to the grocery store, load your cart full of Reese's, Hershey's, Godiva, Ghirardelli, M&M's, Snickers, KitKat, Baby Ruth...You clean out the grocery store. You're ready to check out.....and your card doesn't work. You don't have any cash. There is no ATM in the store. You leave a little bit relieved.

Did God do that?

Does God make a pheasant fly out in front of you on the road so you'll slow down and see the deer up ahead?

Does God make you sick so you stay home and miss whatever catastrophe happened that day?

And if God intervenes in my life but not yours, does that mean I'm holier? That actually made me laugh. Me? Holier? Don't think so.

I have a hard time believing God intervenes in our lives. I think God is "up there" laughing at us thinking that is so. I believe God, the Holy Spirit, is in each of us. I believe God gave us free will. God is in you...You have free will....You have a choice. When that pheasant jumps out at you, slow down or speed up. Your choice. When I get cancer, I have a choice-- fight or give up. When you get sick, you have a choice- go to work, run your errands, whatever...or stay home and get well. I also think there are just plain coincidences. But in no way do I think God nudged that pheasant to jump out into the road.

And I do not think so much of myself that I think God is acting on my behalf. I believe God gave me this life to do the best that I can with it. To succeed or fail. To live well or live badly. To be good or be evil.

I feel like I'm coming off a little bit anti-God, but I'm really not. I'm pro-God! I'm just not a sheep who believes everything told to me from the pulpit, the Bible, and the religious "leaders".

I think God chooses when to intervene...in some cases He wants us to turn to Him to seek His Hand and grow in our spirit. I think He allows things and stops some things.
Speaking for myself, I know I wouldn't have had Trinity if God hadn't intervened. But that's my opinion, and I'm not here to sway you from what you believe. I believe God reveals Himself to each of us in a very personal way and perhaps the way He reveals Himself to you is to have a different approach? I don't know. I bet your dad will have an awesome response to this. He does have a way with words!

Now here's where you and I can agree to disagree. Well, maybe. I may have spoken before I thought. I believe God helps us and if an intervention is what's called for then that's it. You know sometimes we need a pheasant to jump out in front of us to get our attention. Sometimes, in my case, it may be a 2 x 4. At any rate God does do things to get our attention. How he does it is a mystery but that's why he's God and we aren't. And that's a good thing.

While I do believe that he gives us freewill I believe that he has a plan for our lives, that's not revealed to us, and the ultimate end goal of that plan doesn't change. Now some decisions we make because of freewill might cause a bend in the road it doesn't change God's ultimate goal for each of his wonderful children.
