Nintendo DS will release "The Clique" in September 2009.
The Clique is a social game, where the player is the new girl at school and has to climb the social ladder using "gossip, fashion & wit" to get in with the "Pretty Committee", the most popular clique in the game.
Puke.
I see this as a bad idea all around. First of all, can we stop playing games on t.v., handhelds, whatever and get our kids running around outside so they're not morbidly obese? We're in an epidemic here, folks. Secondly, and more importantly, teenage girls do not need a game to make them feel insecure or have no self-esteem/confidence. That's what high school's for. A game like this is just going to make them feel crappier, and it's not even real life. Can you imagine playing the game and being rejected by this "Pretty Committee"? It would suck worse than being rejected in real life. You can't even make it in a game!!
I don't usually associate game-play with real life. Take Grand Theft Auto, for example. I don't think playing that game makes kids violent. I think you have to have a propensity for violence already. But this game seems different to me, and maybe it's because I remember those years when popularity was so important. High school had its bad moments and I honestly think the only reason I didn't get my ass kicked on a daily basis was because of my big brother.
Maybe I'm overreacting, but if I had a daughter in junior high or high school, I wouldn't be making this my number 1 purchase.
