December 24 Prompt – Everything’s OK-- What was the best moment that could serve as proof that everything is going to be alright? And how will you incorporate that discovery into the year ahead? (Author: Kate Inglis)
I can't get the Beatles song, "Let it Be" out of my head. We've been singing Beatles songs all Advent, culminating with their hit "Let it Be" tonight during Christmas Eve services. Reading this prompt, I also have the song "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" by Bob Marley stuck in my head. It's a clash of Beatles & Marley. I'm not sure who's winning, but it's raucous in my head.
I think there were many moments this past year, not just one, that prompted me to think "it's going to be o.k.". When we found out our pastor was leaving July 1, there was a lot of fear and anxiety going around, but we knew it would be o.k. This was God's plan. God knows what's going on, even if we don't. We put our cares into His hands and "let it be". Though, I did feel like I held my breath for 2 months and could finally exhale when our new pastor arrived. I was turning blue in the face! Not a pretty sight. But it really was o.k. We survived. We persevered. We held on.
As you know, my mantra is "This too shall pass". I'm not dealing in life or death situations here. This isn't rocket science. If I make a mistake, it isn't the end of the world. Time marches on and so do we. But when stuff drags me down, when people are vicious & mean, when things just aren't working right, I just tell myself, "This too shall pass". Nothing of this world lasts forever. It may seem like it, when you're in the moment; when you're living it. But honestly, just hold on one more day....you never know what's around the corner.
