As you can tell from my last post, I haven't been up-to-par lately. Not only that, my computer contracted a nasty virus so I've been incommunicado the past couple of days and have, thus, fallen behind on my Reverb 10 challenges. I'm hoping to catch up today.
December 8 – Beautifully Different. Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful. (Author: Karen Walrond)
What do I do that lights people up? I exist. It really pisses some folks off & gets them all fired up. What else do I do? Set them on fire. Literally. That really lights 'em up, too!
But seriously, to answer this prompt means deep, insightful reflection of oneself. I'm all about anything to do with me, so here goes.
What makes me different?
Absolutely nothing. I'm just like everybody else. We're all just like everybody else. Some of us are intelligent. Some of us aren't. Some of us are funny. Some of us are depressing (debbie downers). Some of us are jocks. Some of us aren't. Some of us have common sense. Some of us don't. Some of us are caring & compassionate. Some of us have a black heart. Some of us are detail-oriented. Some of us lose everything.
Who am I but a reflection of my parents, my siblings, my experiences, my education, my health, my job, my friends? I think Chuck Palahniuk of Fight Club fame says it best: "I've met God across his long walnut desk with his diplomas hanging on the wall behind him, and God asks me, "Why?" Why did I cause so much pain? Didn't I realize that each of us is a sacred, unique snowflake of special unique specialness? Can't I see how we're all manifestations of love? I look at God behind his desk, taking notes on a pad, but God's got this all wrong. We are not special. We are not crap or trash, either. We just are. We just are, and what happens just happens. And God says, "No, that's not right". Yeah. Well. Whatever. You can't teach God anything."
Rather than ponder on how I'm not beautifully different from anyone else, how about focusing on that last part-- What do I do that lights people up....in a good way? Not in that "My flesh is burning!" kind of way.
I can be humorous. I don't think that I am. I don't know that I am. But for some reason, people find me funny.....and not necessarily funny lookin', though I'm sure that happens on occasion. I can make people laugh, either through this blog or in person. That makes me all warm & fuzzy inside....I might be lighting myself up! I think, essentially, I am surrounded by people who make me laugh, especially during a touranment of Spoons, and thus, they make me funny.
